Deschutes Brewery, Bend, Oregon

Deschutes Brewery Tour.

This is our fourth summer to visit Bend, but our first to take the tour of Deschutes Brewery. In the past, we’ve made a point of visiting their Public House in downtown Bend, which began brewing in 1988. Construction on the main brewing facility began in 1993.

If you are in Bend, we recommend that you take their informative and enjoyable brewery tour and enjoy the sample brews afterward (or before the tour). Additional Info: Deschutes Brewery was founded in 1988 by Gary Fish and has since become one of the most successful craft breweries in the Pacific Northwest region.

The brewery's origins date back to 1986 when Gary Fish, a homebrewer and entrepreneur, traveled to Europe and was inspired by the traditional brewing practices he witnessed. Fish returned to the United States with a vision of creating a brewery that would combine Old World brewing traditions with Pacific Northwest hops and water.

In 1988, Fish opened the doors of Deschutes Brewery in downtown Bend, Oregon, with a 50-barrel brew house and a mission to craft the best beers possible. The brewery's first beer was the Black Butte Porter, which quickly became a local favorite and helped establish the brewery's reputation for high-quality, flavorful beers.

Over the years, Deschutes Brewery has expanded its production capacity and distribution network to become one of the largest and most respected craft breweries in the country. The brewery now produces a wide variety of year-round and seasonal beers, including IPAs, stouts, porters, and ales.

In addition to its focus on brewing exceptional beer, Deschutes Brewery is also committed to sustainability and giving back to the community. The brewery has implemented a number of environmentally friendly practices, including water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
