Vicksburg, Mississippi

Our side trip today was to Vicksburg National Military Park. The stone entrance is a sixteen-mile tour loop of the park's 1330 monuments, markers, tablets, and plaques that parallels Union siege and Confederate defensive lines. Over 100,000 soldiers from 28 states fought for the control of Vicksburg.

When we were at Natchez State Park campground, our neighbor gave us an hour-long self-paced narrative CD for Vicksburg's tour loop. It took us much longer to complete the loop as we stopped often and got out of the car to explore a tad. All was extremely interesting.
