Helicopers in Action

Apparently, there was a lightning strike across the lake from our campground while we were coming back from town. When we got back, a couple of helicopters worked the fire: One with a bucket & the other a tanker helicopter that sucked up the water.

This video shows both in action getting water from the lake. It’s amazing how fast they fill. The tanker fills once & the bucket twice (a tad over three minutes) in this video.

Sumpter, OR

Sumpter is a short drive from the campground. Check out the Sumpter Valley Railway Restorations, which operates a Historic Steam Narrow Gauge Railroad. The Sumpter Dredge State Heritage Park, which is home to a YUBA style gold mining dredge.

Local Flavor – Area Businesses We Enjoyed & Recommend
Barley Brown's, Baker City, OR Their pub grub menu is meat eaters delight with no vegetarian choices (not even the salads). However, they do have a couple of non-meat options; you just have to ask.
